Oloron, SS-Rich Cerval, Daurat de Jaume de Pontiro'

Next wines were both very very good (at Read's with cordero, calamares, y gazpacho).

OLORON. Chardonnay 2006 From Mallorca
Very yellow, but very very...
R: I doubt you can drink it after 2 years
G. Very good smell when warm. The smell is similar to the
taste

(I&R&F 8/10, G:9/10)

And the winner of the week end:

SS-RIC CERVAL (de uvas Callet y tempranillo)
A surprising wine !
We were all surprised from this mallorquin wine. 4.200 in
total.
(R 10/10, F&I&G: 9/10)

Lest entry for this marathon of wine which our liver will not forget soon.

DAURAT
Jaume de Pontiro'
8.30 eruo at St. Maria market square

R.it's smell good
G. Yeas...a bit alcoholic. Taste like retzina...but not so strong.
R. Honey...a very rich smell of mango fruit
G: you drunk too much!
F: (..speaks in dutch....)
R: Still a nice wine
I: yes but some people think it tastes like retzina
R. Like hay, grass..but not unpleasant.

And this is only a picture because we did not have the log-book with us, but they were pretty good although no at the level of the Oloron and SS-RICH which were the surprise of this wine marathon.

Pere Seda 's Chardonnay, Giro Blanc, Ses Marjades, Monopoles, Vina Norte, Benezech Pic St. Loup

F&R came to visit us for few days. The quality and quantities of wines in the following posts has increased significantly! Not the first one actually (for which no photo is available).

PERE SEDA
Cahrdonnay 2006
Pla I llevant- Mallorca
6.99 at the supermarket

We all agreed it was too sweet and not surprisingly it scored a 5.7 /10 (F 7/10, I 6-/10, R 6/10, G 4/10).

The second two entries were at the Restaurant La Bodeguilla with some “Cordero” and some “Merluza”. We have only the picture of one but the description of both wines.

The first wine was a white (variety Giro Blanc y otras). Here is a "biased" description of the wine which scored high 7.75 (F&R&I 8/10, G 7/10). Pity, they served it much too cold. I: "Nice smell and intensive wine", G: "Bitter". But it get better once it warmed up a bit.

The second wine was a real surprise I would say THE wine of the week-end. A very good wine from the Esporles region:
SES MARJADES
ES VERGER 2003, vol. 14%
(R&F&I 9/10, G 8/10)

The following wine (from the local supermarket) was another flop:
Rioja Blanco
MONOPOLES 2006. vol 13.5%
Bit bitter, poor smell and short-lasting taste, if any.
(R&F 6/10, I. 6-/10, G 4/10). 6 euros

The reds were better but came from somewhere else than Mallorca : -)
The first bought in Tenerife island, here below the comments:
VIÑA NORTE 5-6 euros
G. Very violet color,
R: Very special smell
G: Smelling prunes?
R. Also rasin. I smell the sweetness but it is not in the taste.
I: Very fruity smell
G. Pepper! It's smell pepper!
R: you can taste the sulfurs from the volcanic island. and red fruits as brambles.
I: the ones we thought to have eaten today ;-)
(F&R&I: 7/10, G: 8/10)

Next one. Bought at Monptelleir.A Pic St. Loup is a mix of Syrha, Granache and I can't remember which other grape.

PIC ST. LOUP
Benezech 2005 Auberge de Valcyre. Supermarket 7.99 euros
I: It doesn't smell Spanish. You can taste the tannins in the spanish wine you cannot
R: Fresh, smell with pepper typical of Syrha
G. too acid! too young!
F. it needs more time
R: It has still tannins sign that you can keep it a long time

(I: 7.5/10, F:6.5/10, R: 7.5/10, G: 6/10)

Marques de Cacerés. Rioja, 2004

We normally buy this wine when we are in a tight situation (e.g. the Eroski supermarket with it´s small wine selection in the midranges). It is a red Rioja, normally priced 5-6 euros. 13,5% alcohol. It is a good price/quality wine and certainly recomendable. It gets a bit boring after a while though.
This time we drank it on a sunday evening (9/9/07) with friends from Cadiz; Ed, Gloria, Patricia and Diego after we went sailing and caught 2 big Dorados:-)

A visit to the new (rent) house of Rg with a BBQ .

We had a very nice wine for chile.

And two interesting wines from Mallorca

Albaflor (rosé) 2006

Mallorcan wine produced in Binissalem. Actually does not give a year but says N-06, think it should be 2006. Made from Manto negro, Merlot and Cabernet. 14% alcohol, due to the sun-hours here all wines are really alcoholic.
Like all Mallorcan wines overpriced (the ratio quality/price is off due to the low production and high demand for souvenirs): 5 - 6 euros.
We drank it with a home made paella on the bbq while Daan and Ilse were here. Ilse liked it but it was much too sweet for my taste. Much. It tasted like a red wine though, full body. The men did not really like it but finished the bottle.
